John I. Caldwell (born 1946)[1] is a nationally syndicated American gag cartoonist primarily known for his work in Nation Lampoon and MAD Magazine, where he is a member of "The Usual Gang of Idiots." Besides National Lampoon and Mad, Caldwell's drawings have appeared in many publications, including Writer's Digest, Playboy, Barron's, the New Yorker, the Wall Street Journal, Reader's Digest, and Harvard Business Review. Caldwell also designs greeting cards for Recycled Paper Greetings and Nobleworks. His books include a children's book and several collections of his own cartoons.
EducationCaldwell never received any actual training as a cartoonist, but attended the Parsons School of Design, where his general art education helped him prepare for a cartooning career. He spent 1969 and 1970 working for the State of New York as a cartographer.[2] Caldwell lives with his wife Diane and dog Jade in upstate New York. Books published
