"TVE2" (also called "La 2", or "La Dos") (literally, The Two), is Spain's second state-owned television channel for the public broadcasting service. Its first broadcast was on November 15, 1966. Unlike sister channel TVE1 ("La Uno"), it is not an overtly populist channel, and rather like BBC Two in the UK is famous for a more "intellectual" style of programming (often popular with university students) featuring wildlife documentaries, classic films from home and abroad, more "alternative" American TV series - Will & Grace, Six Feet Under, Veronica Mars etc. - investigative reporting and the semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest.

However, TVE2 has a very low audience rating, the lowest among nation-wide TV channels. Unlike the BBC, both TVE channels show commercials during and between progammes, although recent developments of the Government's TV policy has hinted at the possible removal of all kinds of advertising from the channel.

During the Aznar years the TVE2 evening news bulletins presented by Lorenzo Milá (and subsequently by Fran Llorente) were seen by some people as a refreshing alternative to what many considered to be government propaganda on TVE1, despite both channels being state-controlled.

Following the Socialists' victory in the 2004 general elections Milá replaced Alfredo Urdaci as evening news anchor on La 1, who has lost its traditional first position in the list of news program ratings. Also now as during José María Aznar years TVE1 has been considered to be government propaganda by some people.
