WEDU is a PBS member station, serving the Tampa Bay DMA in Florida. The station first signed on the air on October 17, 1958 and is the most-watched PBS station in Florida, and one of the most-watched PBS stations in the United States.[citation needed] Its transmitter is located in Riverview, Florida.

For many years, it was the fifth most-watched PBS member, but has since been passed by KOCE and KLCS in the Los Angeles area.[citation needed]

WEDU is one of two PBS stations in the Tampa Bay market (the other being WUSF), and the only one to carry PBS's main schedule.
