WTJU-FM, founded at the University of Virginia in 1957, is one of Charlottesville, Virginia's two volunteer-run radio stations. Located at 91.1 on the FM dial, WTJU broadcasts an eclectic mix of music in two-hour blocks, "spiced" with news. Among the big names who have graced the WJTU airwaves as deejays are Pavement's Stephen Malkmus, Dave Matthews Band's Boyd Tinsley, Rolling Stone critic Rob Sheffield and Yo La Tengo's James McNew. Fifty years after launch, the station is still based at UVA and broadcasts from the Lambeth Commons in the Lambeth residence halls. The general manager is Charles "Chuck" Taylor. External links
